Carlos Asarta, the director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (CEEE), has been honored with the 2025 James O’Neill Economic Education Multiplier Award. This award celebrates educators who significantly expand access to economics by inspiring and training other teachers. Asarta was recognized for his leadership and for continuing the legacy of the center’s founder, Jim O’Neill, by fostering the growth of the national economic education network.
The CEEE’s core philosophy, the “multiplier model,” aims to empower educators and was pioneered by Jim O’Neill, who established a Master of Arts program for teachers that emphasized active, experiential learning. Asarta has built on this foundation since taking over as director in 2013, fostering a strong professional relationship with O’Neill and a shared dedication to the field.
Under Asarta’s direction, the CEEE has expanded its reach and programming, adding initiatives like the Personal Finance and Economic Education Conference and the Bonnie T. Meszaros Economic Educator of the Year Award. He has also modernized the curriculum to include technology, data-driven methods, and personal finance education, ensuring that the center’s work remains relevant in today’s world.
