Google introduced a special interactive animation to mark the first solar eclipse of 2026, giving users a virtual way to experience the annular “Ring of Fire” event. By searching terms such as solar eclipse or annular solar eclipse, users could trigger a dynamic overlay that simulates the Moon passing in front of the Sun. The animation recreates the distinctive glowing ring that forms when the Moon does not completely cover the Sun’s surface.

 

The eclipse was visible mainly from parts of Antarctica and sections of the Southern Hemisphere, while other regions were unable to witness it directly. The interactive feature continues Google’s tradition of commemorating major astronomical events with engaging digital experiences, offering an accessible way for people worldwide to connect with significant moments in the sky.
