Former Chelsea captain John Terry is reportedly set to take over as owner of League Two side Colchester United, becoming the latest ex-Premier League star to buy a football club. The 45-year-old is set to be announced as part of a consortium plotting a £14million takeover at the mid-table side.
The Sun claims Terry will follow in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds, Snoop Dogg, and Will Ferrell by owning a football club in the English pyramid, with one insider claiming the Blues legend was really excited about the deal being announced.
Terry will reportedly have a significant influence at the League Two side, who are currently in 13th place under the guidance of former Lincoln City, Huddersfield Town, and Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley.
Terry’s nephew Frankie Terry is also on the books at Colchester United, but has spent time this season on loan at National League side Braintree Town.
The Blues’ legend is said to be ‘absolutely buzzing’ to get involved with The U’s and is a big believer in the staff and squad at the Essex-based club.
